They are (left to right) 8 year old Mark Waters, Matthew Waters (10), Hannah Davis (almost 5), Joel Garland (4), and Nicholas Garland, who is 1. They are enjoying playing in the back of the 1964 Ford pickup which is a fun project for Grandpa Johnny. After the photo, the little ones had a great time playing in the straw!
In May, John and Alice spent two weeks enjoying Alice's first European trip! We toured the Holland tulip gardens then visited the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart to pick up a Mercedes for a friend. Can you believe we drove a brand new E500 the next twelve days? We toured the Black Forest south of Stuttgart, spent a couple days in Switzerland, a day in Austria, then drove back into the German state of Bavaria for some castle viewing. Next, we went on to medieval Rothenburg via the Romantic Road, and then spent the final night in Munich. A wonderful trip!!!
In September, we visited John's Mother Vivian in Springfield, Missouri for a few days. A highlight of this jaunt was a day trip to the Arkansas Ozarks to visit our good friends, Denis and Norma Mattingly at their "retirement home". Later in the month, Alice and daughter Betsy flew to San Diego to help Alice's brother Will celebrate his 50th birthday!
Two sad notes from this year are, first, the accidental death of our long time good friend Wes Hill in May, and second, the tragic accident of sister Jan's granddaughter, Christy White. Christy was in an ATV accident around mid September, where she fell and received serious injury to her head. She was recently moved from Memphis to Shepard Spinal Clinic in Georgia. We will appreciate you joining us in prayer for this beautiful and normally vibrant 18 year old niece.
