Greetings from John and Alice Davis in the Black Forest of Colorado. We ask our Heavenly Father to bless each of you who read this note, and pray that you enjoy a wonderful holiday season.
We have enjoyed this year, and we are thankful for good health, and our wonderful family and friends.
We celebrated two first birthdays, grandson Joel’s on November fourth, and granddaughter Hannah’s on March twenty third. Alice especially enjoys traveling, and we did our share in ’01. We spent a week in Baja California in February, and were able to include visits to Will and Nora Newbern (Alice’s brother & sister in law), and Uncle Harold (William H. Davis, Johnny’s uncle) in San Diego.
In March we drove to Texarkana, Arkansas, then in May Alice went to North Carolina with High School friends.
In July, John and James celebrated James’ sixteenth birthday “on the road”. They drove to Portland, Oregon to visit Mike, and to get James some last minute driving experience before his driver’s examination (he passed on the first attempt).
A side trip north to Vancouver, British Columbia resulted in more good times before the return home. The scenery on the trip was absolutely fantastic (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana). You should have seen James driving our four-wheel drive Ford truck down the winding mountain hairpin curves!
Alice flew to St. Louis, then drove with her niece (Lou Beighley) to Canton, Illinois for a Newbern reunion. The focus was Aunt Lila’s ninety-first birthday.
The day after a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration in our home, we drove to Denver through an early morning snowstorm to board a flight to Cancun, Mexico with the Waters family (Betsy, Mel, Matthew and Mark). We thoroughly enjoyed a week of wonderful relaxation in warm, sunny, weather. A submarine excursion to look at the coral reef, sea turtles, sting rays, and a shark was memorable. The food and scenery was great, and we managed to celebrate two birthdays (Mel and Alice) before returning to a winter wonderland in Colorado.
